We have some amazing children in our Kids Knit classes every week. They are each special and unique. Getting to know the children in our classes is a real privilege, so we thought we would share the joy with you, our dear followers!
Eilidh Scott teaches classes in Portobello and Musselburgh on the outskirts of Edinburgh and would like to introduce us to a special Kids Knitter called Luke. His love for knitting is pretty extraordinary and his creativity knows know bounds. On top of which, he is racking up a pretty impressive set of knitting skills, which means his knitting is also admirable in terms of skill, difficulty and accuracy.

Hi luke!

How old are you?

What are your favourite hobbies?

Knitting & basketball

What attracted you to knitting and why did you want to start classes with Eilidh?

It was different and I thought it would be fun to make lots of cool things. Seeing Eilidh speak in our school assembly was how I found out about Eilidh’s class. (Hadn’t knitted before then.)

What did you find most challenging when you started to learn to knit?

Keeping all my stitches on my needle and not loosing or adding stitches.

Star Kids Knitter, Luke, age 10

What is it about knitting that you like best?

Being able to show my friends and them being like “wow”.

What knitting skill or project are you most proud of and why?

My dinosaur because it was an enormous achievement.

Luke knitted this rather impressive dinosaur and this beautiful ladybird

What are you working on at the moment?

I’ve just made a beany kitten and a balaclava.

What would you like to learn to do in knitting next?

I love inventing things and often don’t know quite what it’s going to be until I’ve started.

Set up my own knitting shop and be a youth worker at Urban Saints.
