Become_a_Teacher_5Kerry created the Kids Knit programme after she taught her two eldest children to knit.  It was so popular that two further programmes for teenagers and adults quickly followed.  With her background in teaching and her compulsive knitting habits, she found her new business gave her so much satisfaction!  Not only that, it fitted perfectly around her family life.    Keen to offer the same opportunity to others,  she sought professional advice from franchising experts and started to roll out the Knitting For All franchise model in 2013.  Kerry continues to be the main source of support for all the franchisees and eagerly shares her professional expertise and wealth of experience.

Kerry lives in Edinburgh, in a busy and untidy house, with her husband, four children and crazy border collie.

“I love teaching knitting – I especially like that moment where people’s newly learnt skill ‘clicks’ and they feel such a sense of achievement with what they’ve made. As a franchisee, Knitting For All provides me with the support, network and programme to deliver high quality knitting and crafting classes to both children and adults. It’s lovely to be able to teach textile crafts within the Knitting For All group and have the flexibility to fit it around my own family and home life.”

“Being part of a franchise gave me the confidence to set up my own business doing my dream job. Being part of the Knitting For All family gives me all the business support I need. I get to be part of a national network of like minded knitters but have my own, local identity and autonomy. One of the best things about teaching knitting, especially to children, is sitting back, listening to the group chat, laugh and joke (and even sing) whilst all the time their needles are clacking away and they are calm and focused. They don’t realise how special it is….learning a skill for life, being creative, making friends and having fun. I feel lucky to have this amazing job!”

“I love watching people’s delight in creating something for themselves, that why I enjoy teaching.  As a franchisee I enjoy the freedom to run my own business with the safety net of an established company.”

“Teaching crafts like knitting is very inspiring, it opens doors to so much creativity, for adults and children alike! It is a great way to pass on these useful, fun and creative skills which are part of our heritage, and it is so rewarding to see what anyone can achieve with a bit of knowledge, confidence, focus and imagination! “

Samira Hill, Knitting For All: Kelso, Melrose & Jedburgh

“I had been thinking of teaching knitting for some  when I discovered the Knitting For All website, and read about the opportunity to be a franchisee. This seemed to combine both the chance to run my own business, and develop it the way I wanted, whilst also enabling me to incorporate other people’s tried and tested ideas, have the support of colleagues, and the availability of an existing website. It seemed like the best of both worlds!”
