MEET THE TUTOR

I'm Kerry Kimber and having run my own successful small business teaching knitting classes since 2010, and as the creator of the award winning Kids Knit programme for children, I specialise in training and supporting knitters to run their own successful businesses teaching knitting and crafting classes in their local areas, wherever in the world they may live.

I am also Rowan Yarn's Education Manager with responsibility for Knit Along tutorials, step-by-steps, educational writing (books, blogs, articles) as well as training and supporting colleagues with new technology skills. It's varied and interesting work!

My 8 week, live online step-by-step course guides you through the essential skills you need to start, launch, grow and sustain your business teaching knitting.

Sharing the joy and pleasure of knitting and crafting skills, enabling others to release their creativity, is rewarding work. But anyone who has tried running a business teaching regular knitting classes will know there’s more involved than just yarn and needles. In fact, your own knitting expertise is just one skill among many required to deliver consistently successful, engaging and professional classes that keep customers coming back for more.

Coaching and business know-how form the backbone of my eight-week training course, and I provide hundreds of patterns, projects and activities using both UK and US knitting terminology, to enable teaching in a variety of settings. As teaching classes in person may not be possible for some months, we will also cover online teaching skills so that you can initially start to build your business virtually.

Every week I will host a live online class, featuring a presentation and discussion lasting approximately 2 hours. Recordings of every session will also be available so participants can catch up on anything they missed.

Weekly tasks and craft assignments will be set, with participants invited to join a homework discussion group.

The course and support materials are in English and most nationalities will find this course relevant and helpful.

Live teaching enables interaction between students and allows real-time answers to your questions. Classes encourage discussion, peer support and a sense of community.

What people say....

Rachel Armytage

As soon as the first lesson started I realised that this was what I needed to progress in this field of work. I was engaged by the start and have eagerly waited for the next one to start. I feel that I have a lot to do to get certain things in place but with the guidance from Kerry I have all the tools I need.

After doing the Knitting For All teacher accreditation course I feel full of enthusiasm to get going and build my business as a knitting teacher. I am now holding two classes for adults in my home with room for more and I am starting to do workshops on line teaching how to knit socks! I am also preparing to sell the kits on my Etsy shop in due course. Exciting times! Thank you Kerry x

Expectations exceeded, course has given me lots of ideas for working with varied groups and different crafts whilst now having the knowledge to keep accurate records and work out costings and viability of classes. I absolutely loved this course, Kerry is an excellent facilitator. The course was delivered methodically and logically, taking into account all aspects of setting up a business to developing our own craft skills by having a go at projects we would not necessarily have tried out before. I have come away with lots of ideas and a great structure for developing a knitting business. It was also a great way to make contacts with like minded people across many areas. Thank you Kerry for developing and delivering an excellent course.
